Have you ever wanted to try trap shooting but weren't sure how to get started? Whether you're brand new to shotgun sports or have experience with other clay target games and want to give trap a try, our Discover Trap event is for you!
Join us for a fun, welcoming, and beginner-friendly introduction to one of the most popular shotgun sports. We'll cover the basics of trap shooting, including range safety and etiquette, how the game is played, shotgun fundamentals, and tips to help you start breaking clay targets. You'll have the opportunity to ask questions, learn from experienced club shooters, and get some time on the trap field in a relaxed, supportive environment.
Trap is also a great starting point for exploring the wider world of shotgun sports. With its straightforward rules, consistent target presentations, and structured format, trap provides an approachable way to build essential skills such as target focus, smooth gun movement, and consistent shotgun mounting. These fundamentals carry over naturally into other clay target disciplines like skeet, sporting clays, and 5-stand, making trap an excellent foundation for anyone interested in exploring more of what shotgun sports have to offer.
No trap shooting experience is necessary, and there's no pressure to perform. Our goal is simple: introduce you to the sport, help you feel comfortable on the trap field, and most importantly, have some fun breaking clays!
Participants should bring:
1.) a field or sporting shotgun with a modified or full choke
2.) two boxes of #7 1/2 or #8 shot target loads (50 shells total)
3.) a shell bag or jacket with big pockets
4.) eye and ear protection
Don't have a shotgun or ammunition or are unsure of anything? No problem! Just contact Sean Gorman through the messaging portal on the club member site ahead of time, and we'll make sure you have what you need to participate.
Come give trap shooting a try. You might just discover your new favorite shooting sport!
